OFFICIAL: Volvo Will Compete In WTCC

In an official statement issued today, Volvo announced that the C30 DRIVe model, which ran until present in the STCC, will debut in the WTCC(World Touring Car Championship).

After having successfully participated in the Swedish Touring Car Championship, where he actually came out and triumphantly, Volvo aims at a higher level competition. The Scandinavian automaker plans to participate in next year’s edition of the World Touring Car Championship with the C30 DRIVe model of Polestar team.

The model will run in all stages to preparing the ground for an official Volvo debut in the WTCC 2012 season. The officials have acknowledged that the 2011 season will be only a test one, Polestar trying to gather as much information and adapt to conditions of the race. The Polestar C30 DRIVe’s debut will take place on October 31 at Okayama, in the penultimate race of the 2010 season.

Volvo is not at the first contact with the world of motorsport, the Goteborg house managed to win titles in ETCC with the 240 model and in BTCC with the S40 model. Not missing the victories in the STCC, Swedish Touring Car Championship, with Volvo 840, Volvo S40, Volvo S60 and with new Volvo C30.
