The recalls “trend” for the models affected by different technical problems continues. This time, three automakers have issued world wide recalls.

Three of the most important automakers of the world have announced yesterday massive recalls for some of the models they are selling on certain markets of the Globe. We are talking about Toyota, BMW and Volvo, and so the new recalls continue, reminding us about the black days the automotive industry is living regarding this aspect.

Most recalled units, 1.53 million, are found in Toyota’s back yard, which in just a year it passed the 12 million cars recalled for technical checkups world wide. Most of their recalled cars were sold in Japan and USA, but there also is an unknown number of units affected in Europe, China, South America, Africa and Oceania. The problems regard a potential problem of the braking system and the gas pump wirings. In the spotlight of the recall are the Toyota Crown, Avalon and Highlander models, and the Lexus GS300, IS250 and IS350 models.

The BMW recall targets 21,771 cars sold in China, this operation having as core a global problem of the braking system of one of the company’s models. We are talking about 21,383 5-Series, 6-Series and 7-Series units and 388 Rolls-Royce Phantom cars. Globally, this issue affects 345,000 units of the three BMW models and about 6,000 Phantom units. According to the BMW spokesman, Frank Strebe, the German company have received on complains regarding this malfunctioning, the recall being a “volunteer” one.

Finally, Volvo will recall about 10,000 cars in The States because of side airbag problems, which might not inflate in case of an accident. The recall was ordered by NHTSA, the American organization watching the traffic safety. The Volvo recall includes the 2010 and 2011 versions of S80, XC70, V70 and XC60 models.

The guys from Volvo have to enter in recall in service trend. Fortunately, for a minor problem, which affects Volvo C30, Volvo S40 and Volvo V50 products in 2010-2011 period.

On “Little strokes fell great oaks”, the Volvo engineers have discovered a small problem, which, in extreme cases could cause accidents. Until now, however, was not the case for it.

More specifically, there is inadequate tightening of the screw at the gearbox lever. Therefore, the cable control lever gearbox may be weakening, with direct consequences for the conduct of the box.

Simply mean, if you’re in a gear, you can not change gear (so, if necessary, you can not move to “neutral”), on the other hand there is misfortune that if you are in neutral, no longer can engage step I or II, so you can not leave this place.

The resolving of the problem, however, is very simple: the dealers will use screw tightness troublesome in service, free for all owners of Volvo cars affected. It’s about compact-class models products in 2010-2011 period, more exactly C30, S40 and V50.

Perhaps the emotions on takeover Volvo by Geely are to blame …

It seems that any automaker not escape by the famous recall.

Our good pal the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) has just announced that Volvo is to face a big recall. Vehicles manufactured by Volvo are the subject of two different recalls, but only one problem. How come? Well it’s related to the fuel system, so yes that can cause different and apparently non-related issues. In total some 140,000 vehicles are to be recalled, manufacturing date anytime within this year and 10 years ago.

The massive campaign of recalling for Volvos will begin right away in January 2010. Figures talk of 140k to 150k units, but like always the actual numbers may vary depending on users.

Volvo cx60

The first recall is directed at 136,100 2001-2005 model year S60, S80, V70, XC70, and XC90 vehicles sold and operated in warmer climates. According to NHTSA, the fuel pump can develop cracks in its flange when exposed to hot temperatures (and thermal cycling) combined with varying fuel quality. Thus, the flange may leak fuel and/or result in a fire.

The second recall is directed at 5,253 2010 model year XC60 vehicles. According to NHTSA, a fuel line rail cover designed to protect the fuel lines on the XC60 may be improperly attached, thus exposing the lines to damage. The damaged pieces may leak, possibly resulting in a fire. Repairs will be made for no charge.

Owners should bring their vehicles into the dealer for inspection. If it proves out that the car is, in the manner described above, defective, Volvo will replaced it with modified flange at no charge.
