Subaru has announced that they wants to penetrate the hybrid-electric market, but this step will not be made by the Japanese until 2013.

The Subaru officials announced that they are considering to entering on the hybrid market and electric cars, but no sooner than 2013. Nick Senior, one of the Subaru executives said that the Japanese company working in collaboration with Toyota to produce a hybrid version of the FT-86 concept, but it is not ready to be presented.

As the cars that using alternative fuel, Nick Senior believes that these models will increase the market next year, but is conditioned by the government subsidies. Latest hybrid from Subaru is the Tourer Concept prototype, that was unveiled last year at the Tokyo Motor Show and has a particular chassis. It has two electric engines, one in front and one rear of the car, having the extra energy regeneration system from braking and a start-stop system.

In normal mode, the main source of power is four cylinder boxer engine, which is assisted power during acceleration of the engines that develop 27 HP (at rear) and respectively 13 HP. Although some of the solutions presented by Tourer Concept are very interesting , it is just a prototype and will be removed in the next version number. However, some items that have debuted this car will be implemented on future Subaru models.

The Tourer Concept by Subaru will be powered by a 2.0-liter horizontally-opposed direct fuel-injection turbo gasoline engine, which works in a computerized system with two electric motors located at each axle.

Power is primarily provided by the boxer engine that is linked to a new generation Lineatronic CVT (continuously variable transmission). According to Subaru, at start-up and extremely low speeds, the 20kW / 27HP rear electric motor can move the vehicle on its own while during acceleration, it kicks in to give an additional power boost to the gasoline engine. As for the 10kW / 13HP electric motor located on the front axle, Subaru said that it is normally used as a power generator to recharge the lithium-ion battery while it also provides additional power for hill climbing

Subaru is internationally known for their use of boxer engines in most of their vehicles, and turbo options. The company decided to use all wheel drive in most international markets as standard equipment in 1996. They also offer many turbocharged versions of their passenger cars, such as the Impreza WRX which is well-known in motorsports, such as rally racing. Other turbocharged models from Subaru include the Baja, Forester XT, Outback XT, Impreza WRX STI and Legacy GT Spec.B Time will tell of the Tourer Concept will feature turbo.
