Romain Grosjean will replace Nick Heidfeld in the test session that Pirelli will perform next week at Monza circuit.

Romain Grosjean received an unexpected chance to drive again the Formula 1 car, after brief experience as a driver of the Renault team in the last part of the previous season.

Heidfeld had been released from his contract with Mercedes GP to test for the Italian company, which is taking over from Bridgestone as F1′s sole supplier next year.

However, it was announced earlier this week that the Nick Heidfeld is to replace Pedro de la Rosa at BMW Sauber, beginning at next weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix.

Understanding between Grosjean and Pirelli is valid only for testing at Monza, with a chance that the French are in turn replaced in the following evaluations. After Renault withdrew its services, Grosjean has competed sporadically in sports cars and had a brief experience in GP2.

 Moreover, the Italian manufacturer has confirmed that is considering whether to offer the same specifications for tires in Formula 1 and GP2, but a final decision in this regard will be taken by the FIA.

Pirelli thanked Heidfeld for his contribution after the German completed some 200 laps over a two day test at the Jerez circuit in southern Spain at the wheel of last year’s Toyota TF109 car.

“The tests here at Jerez have gone extremely well and we completed all the work that we planned over the two days,”  said Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery.

“Now we move on to Monza where our task will be to finalise the (tyre) construction before we focus further on compounds.”

Pirelli has made this week a new session of testing at Jerez circuit to evaluate the types of tires for next season.

Nick Heidfeld participated Wednesday and Thursday at the third session of tests carried out by Pirelli, the unique tire supplier in Formula 1 from next year.

Italian manufacturer has evaluated several types of tires during 200 laps, in conditions on which will provide four types of slick tires next season, thanked to the German diver for the feedback he gave in the last period.  Heidfeld has signed a contract with BMW Sauber for the last five races of the year, reason why he can’t continue working with Pirelli.

“We want to thank Heidfeld for his significant contribution to our development program for tires and wish him all the best in the future. To avoid fostering a team, we decided to give up his contract and we chose  Romain Grosjean Monza to test for us. It has gained much experience in a short time, including the development of tires for GP3, so I’m sure will be able to give us positive feedback. “

“Jerez tests went very well and we completed all the work planned for those two days. Now we move to Monza, where our goal will be to complete construction before we focus more on the types of components,”  said Paul Hembery, director of Pirelli motorsport department.

Grosjean’s choice in the role of  Pirelli test driver was confirmed shortly after the appearance of information in the international press.

Gpupdate publication revealed the first photo session of Nick Heidfeld tests for Pirelli on the Mugello circuit.  Pirelli began its first test this week for new tires that will provide them in Formula 1 from next year. The event takes place at the Mugello circuit in Italy and has a private character, but journalists have managed to achieve publication gpupdate first photo with the Toyota TF109 F1 car  piloted by Nick Heidfeld.

As can be seen in the photograph attached  F1 car  Toyota is predominantly white and includes Pirelli logo on rear wing, but from colour point of view remind us the car used by Toyota Racing two years ago.

Tests at Mugello continue throughout Tuesday and Wednesday. The first sesion with the current F1 cars will take place in mid-November, after the last race of the season in Abu Dhabi.
