Mitsubishi will launch in 2012 a new generation of the Colt model. Just like the rivals of Nissan, the Japanese aim to make the subcompact model global.

The strategy adopted by Nissan, who wants to make their Micra a global model, will be copied by Mitsubishi. The Japanese automaker plans to launch a new generation of the subcompact model, Mitsubishi Colt, in the next couple of years. The model will beĀ responsibleĀ for Mitsubishi’s image on several world markets, as the Japanese have opened a new plant in Thailand to handle the production of the new Colt.

For now, there are not too may informations about the new Mitsubishi Colt, the new generation being scheduled to debut in 2012. Under the body modeled under the influence of a new design philosophy, Mitsubishi will hide a new platform, as well as new engines. The Japanese might fit even smaller engines, of 1.0 and 1.2-liters, naturally aspired, but also a turbocharged version of the bigger one.

Rumor has it that the plant in Thailand is set to increase its production capacity to 200,000 units per year, way over the current one of 150,000 units. If everything goes as planned, we would see the first pictures of the New Mitsubishi Colt in auto show next year.
