Renault Wants To Compete In WRC
Renault analyze the possibility to compete in the World Rally Championship with Renault Megane Coupe or with the future generation of Renault Clio.
Renault has launched a feasibility study to determine if they could successfully compete in the World Rally Championship. The information was revealed by a source close to the automaker, which claim that the French are inclined to increase their involvement in the rallies.
The source hinted that it’s talking about WRC, because it mentioned about the changing of the technical rules, that provides the transition to the 1.6-liter turbo engine from the 2011 season.
“In some shape or form, Renault has always been involved in rallying, but the change in regulations certainly make it easier to participate at the top level. The prospect of being represented at every level is very interesting for Renault.”said the source.
According to the speculations, Renault would be able to compete in the WRC with the Megane Coupe model, or with the future Clio, but a final decision in this regard will be taken in the coming months, if the French will confirm their wish to participate in the WRC. The French intentions to compete in the WRC come to only a few months after Renault has reduced its participation in Formula 1 at engine supplier status, a competition where is used also the 1.6-liter turbo engines.
