Mazda Recall – The Problem? Some Spiders

Mazda will make a recall of 65,000 Mazda6 copies in North America and Central America. The reason: a species of spider is attracted by the smell of gasoline.

Mazda will make a recall on the United States market for 52,000 Mazda6 units and other 13,000 of the same model sold in Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico. The reason behind the recall, which affects the cars produced between 2009 and 2010, is a common species of spider, a spider that could make a nest in the vapor fuel tank(only in the gasoline version).

The spiders are attracted by the smell of hydrogen oxide emitted by the gasoline and a some spiders have made their nest in the vapor fuel tank of a few Mazda6 units. The Japanese journalist, Mitsuhiro Kunisawa has explained the problem as being caused by the two exhausts of Mazda 6 model, a very rare configuration, which gives off an enough strong smell to attract those spiders, but not enough strong to kill them. Therefore, says Kunisawa, this problem does not occur for any other Mazda model.

This issue could cause a fuel leak and a potential fire hazard. There is no accident or fire caused by this problem, but the guys from Mazda will make a recall, however, to eliminate the risk. The solution is to mount a spring on that pipe to prevent the spiders access.
