The iPad 2 will have a display with twice the resolution of current version. The iPad comes with a 9.7-inch touchscreen with 1024 x 768 resolution and we’ve heard a lot of rumors that Apple will double the pixels in iPad 2 in order to make life easier for the devs which will be able to scale their apps seamlessly.

Yesterday we presented you some app icons found in iOS 4.3 which said “iPadx2″ and “iPhonex2.” We already know that Apple doubled the iPhone pixels and this trend will be followed on the iPad 2 as the tablet will have a 2048 x 1536 display.

Today we’re going to show you a .png file which is called Wood Tile@2x.png. This image has 1536 x 800 pixels, while the Wood Tile.png image in iBooks 1.1 had only 768 x 400 pixels. So there you have it: twice the pixels.

If this is not proof that the next gen iPad will have twice the resolution, then I don’t know what more are you expecting. Anyway it won’t be a long wait as the iPad 2 release date is April 2nd or April 9th.

In the wake of Steve Jobs’s new medical leave of absence, the iPad 2 rumors are continuing and they somewhat contradict what we’ve heard the last time. The latest iPad 2 rumor says that the iOS-powered tablet is going to feature a Retina Display with a Super-High Resolution standing at 2048×1536.

These words come from MacRumors as they’ve discovered double pixel images of iOS apps which means that the resolution of the app icons has been doubled which eventually means that the iPad 2 touchscreen is doing to have double the resolution of the current iPad.

After Apple doubled the resolution of the iPhone 4 in order to be easier for the devs to optimize the apps. Apple loves the devs and they’re going to double the iPad resolution so the app developers can scale the apps. Sounds about right, right???

The 2048×1536 resolution is pretty impressive and I’m not that sure we’re going to see such resolution on a tablet. I don’t know what to think… It would be great indeed, but it’s very unlikely. Let’s just wait until April 2nd or April 9th when the iPad 2 will be released.

Now that the Verizon iPhone 4 has been unveiled, the rumors are concentrating on another Apple product: the iPad 2. This time the iPad 2 rumors come from Germany and we’re finally hearing a release date: April 2nd or April 9th.

The German website says that the iPad 2 release date in the US will fall on a Saturday and it’s either April 2nd or April 9th. So the iPad 2 is launching in one of the first two Saturdays or April and it will be available only at Apple Stores in the US for up to 6 months. Apple will send the iPad 2 to retailers like Best Buy and WalMart six months after initial launch.

The iPad 2 spec list consists of two cameras (one in the front and one in the back), USB port, and Retina Display. Apple will also push the iPad 2 on the European market three months after the US release date.

Allegedly, these rumors come from the mouth of a very reliable source and they seem to be on par with what we’ve heard earlier, but let’s not draw any conclusions yet.

Apple is nowhere near the Consumer Electronics Show and I was hoping that people will stop talking about Steve Jobs&Co. at least this once. Well, that didn’t happen as a lot of case and dock makers were here at CES 2011 where they displayed their own products alongside iPad 2 mock-ups.

No matter how hard Apple is trying to keep the iPad 2 a secret, it won’t be able to do that. This time, the iPad 2 mockup has revealed a little bit more than the wide-range speaker and the aluminum unibody casing, as the tablet seems to feature a built-in 128GB storage.

The current iPad is available in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB versions and all tablet makers in the world didn’t even think to provide a bigger storage on their dual-core tablets. When Apple is going to release the iPad 2 with 128GB, WiFi and WiFi + 3G versions, dual-core CPUs, and an improved touchscreen, these pseudo-tablet-makers better don’t come to us crying.

Steve Jobs is probably laughing really hard now as the competition doesn’t have any brains and because he won’t be forced to add some breakthrough features on the iPad 2. Uhm, well, all is not lost, but sadly I don’t see anyone matching the iPad sales. And guess what? I’m not an Apple fan!

The rumors about iPad 2 have started in the first week after the original iPad has been launched. Apple has been pretty straight with this and denied the existence of the iPad 2, but we’re going to have to thank the leaksters once again as the iPad 2 cases have been leaked on the web and you can watch the two pics below.

The next-gen iPad will measure 239x186mm and a 9.7-inch touchscreen, while the original iPad measures 242.8×189.7mm. The thickness has not been mention, while other details about the hardware are also missing in action. We would have been curious whether the iPad 2 will feature cameras on the back and in the front of the device.
