Infiniti’s first hybrid concept official: 2012 M35

The M35 will get a hybrid version sometime in 2012, Infiniti has recently confirmed. Yes, this is about the Infiniti mid-size sedan, not about the Citroen M35. Nevermind the name coincidence, that subject would get too philosophical. In Japan the M series is known as the Nissan Fuga.

That’s about a year after the conventionally powered M35, which launches next spring as a 2011 model. It’s the first hybrid in the 20-year history of Infiniti. And we hope a good first, as eco-friendly cars are always good news in my opinion.

This 2012 version of the M35 will gets a “laminated” lithium-ion battery pack, and the lamination enhances cooling performance. Or so they say. Some parts of this concept were engineered before for the Infiniti Essence. Time will tell how much of this project was used and how far it it will be developed.

The 3.5 liter V6 engine will work alongisde the electric motor, and a system of two clutches will simultaneously send power to rear wheels. Traction baby, traction ! The next-generation M sedan was revealed using virtual technology and foam blocks this summer at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
