IndyCar had a wide variety of entries to pick from for their new 2012 chassis: BAT, Dallara, DeltaWing, Lola, and Swift to name the most famous of them. They picked Dallara, an interesting concept chassis picture in the photo gallery down below (no, no there..just after these few paragraphs). Dallara also supplied this IndyCar season, with Honda making the engine. So what’s new and how will this be affecting IndyCar? We’ll try to see, but mostly each should have his very own personal opinion. Read on for the facts to held meld that.

Dallara 2012 Indycar Concept Chassis

What was the main advantage of this chassis system pick? Lower costs it seems and more appeal to race fans, in what may be a big step in race revival for the United States. A 40% cost reduction for teams in estimated, and the aero kits that will be available from other manufacturers will help keep a certain level of personalization for teams. The new Dallara chassis is also lighter, at t 1,380 pounds, some 185 pounds.

Since the split between CART and the IRL more than a decade ago, open wheel racing in America has seen rapidly declining audiences that led to lower television revenue and a further downward spiral. The new engine regulations and the new chassis should go a long way towards making the series more entertaining for fans.

Why else is this good news? The Press Conference also told that Dallara would be building a new plant in Indianapolis, to make production easier and closer to IndyCar. More jobs, more work, less pay for the teams.

Double trouble on this weekend’s IndyCar race! On one hand, girl rookie Simona De Silvestro had some handling issues with the car, but most troubling when her car turned into a ball of fire, the rescue team had some issues with retarding the flames and, consequently, pulling her out of there.

People that didn’t watch the whole  Firestone 550 at the Texas Motor Speedway this weekend,  missed one of the most shocking crashesh in recent history, that occured  on lap 99 (interesting number). Simona De Silvestro,  Swedish rookie of only 21 years, can be seen hitting in the wall with high velocity, her car erupting into a fireball as it slid along the crash barrier before coming to a stop on the apron.

The rescue crews were on the scene in moments, however ok them more than 25 seconds to begin extracting de Silvestro from the flaming wreckage, and even longer to get any sort of suppression on the inferno due to some apparent equipment issues.

You can see in the video how the first rescuer was looking rather stupidly back at the car, with an inactive hose in his hands. What’s even more amazing is that the female racer somehow walked away from the wreckage on her own feet, and first reports tell of only minor hand burns. Not only did she crash in the wall, drag the car on that wall quite a distance, erupt in flames and camp in the fiery wreck for some long 30 seconds.

This is the third time in the past weeks that we state: Good thing costumes and race equipment protect from fire and shock, up to a certain period of time and a certain degree of course…
