The Future Ford Focus RS Could Be Hybrid

The next generation of Focus could have an RS version. In addition to outstanding performance, the new model will be a hybrid that will have significantly reduced emissions compared to previous generation.

Ford could develop a future version of the Focus RS, although it was not initially announced. Moreover, the model could be a hybrid equipped with an electric motor to engage the rear wheels, providing a four-wheel drive system when needed and less fuel consumption. At the Geneva Motor Show this year, Derrick Kuzak – the responsible for developing Ford’s global brand, confirmed that Ford will build a performance version of the Future Focus that will be available globally. It is not clear if the performance version is ST announced yesterday or Ford will create a future version of the Focus RS.

In the first phase we talking about a Ecoboost 2.0-liter engine which will be assisted by an electric motor.Will retain the rear axle configuration of Multilink, the only problem will be the implementation of the batteries and the electric motor without to remove the back seat and the trunk space. Using an electric motor for rear wheel engagement could lead to developing a full hybrid, which would bring many benefits among Ford’s customers. The taxes imposed to a hybrid is significantly lower than those applied to a hot hatch, not to mention the benefits of a four-wheel drive system.

The Ecoboost 2.0-liter engine should provide over 300 HP, while the electric motor will provide a significantly less power. Ford has a hybrid propulsion system for the U.S. version of Fusion that could be adapted for Focus, but this involves serious changes. Ford Fusion hybrid system is composed by a propeller of 2.5-liters for 156 HP and an electric motor by 191 HP. Another problem for the guys from Ford would be the binding of the future performance RS on the track, essential for “credibility” of a sport model.
