Fiat have borrowed the first model of the Chrysler range in order to sell it with their logo in Europe. We are talking about Fiat Freemont, the Italian version of Dodge Journey. The model will debut in March, at Geneva Motor Show 2011.

The Fiat-Chrysler joint-venture have started to bring their American models to Europe. More exactly, Dodge Journey was fully used by the Italians of Fiat and will be launched in the second half of 2011. Fiat Freemont is set to debut at Geneva Motor Show 2011 in March and is built at the Chrysler plant in Toluca, Mexic. In the same plant is built the American Fiat 500, but the similarities between the two models end in the plant where are built and at the front grill logo.

The new model of Fiat range comes to combine the flexibility and the usability in one original model. Freemont is 192,5 inches long, 74 inches wide and 67,7 inches high. The Italian model with American origins is proud of having the biggest wheelbase in the segment – 113,7 inches. Thanks to the big wheelbase, the model offers seven seats as standard. The door opening system, that allows the user to open the doors to a 90 degrees angle, make the third row of seats very accessible. The third row of seats can also be folded with one simple move to create a loading platform.

Regarding the engines, the new Fiat Freemont will come with two power version of a 2.0-liter MiltiJet unit. So, the engine will offer 140 HP or 170 HP. First, Fiat will offer Freemont with front wheel drive and manual gearbox, but an automatic transmission and several four wheel drive version will come subsequently. As stock, the model features seven air-bags, ABA with Brake Assist, ESP with Hill Holder and a electric safety system that prevents rollover.
