Next year at Geneva Auto Show we could see the first Ferrari hybrid. New generation of 612 Scaglietti is the main candidate for the environmental technology exposure.

Luca di Montezemolo, the Ferrari president, said in an interview granted this year, that the hybrid technology developed in the Italian automaker laboratories will be ready for mass production in 2014.

The latest information contradict the official Ferrari declaration, the first public meeting with the hybrid propulsion train to be held next spring. Then, Ferrari will present at the Geneva Motor Show, the new generation of Scaglietti and with this model and the alternative propulsion system.

The rumors, circulated by the German magazine Autobild, announces a Scaglietti as a pioneer of hybrid technology series, certificate by Ferrari, being able to use the resources of a unit composed by a V12 engine and an electric one. According to self publication, on the previous axle will be a 12-cylinder engine and 550 HP, while the rear axle will host a power unit, designed to deliver 100 HP.

The resources baggage will help the Italian model to show off much better performance, while providing a fuel economy of about 35%, similar to that predicted by 599 Hy-Kers concept, at Geneva.

The successor of the four seats model, made in Maranello, is expected on the international market in mid of 2011, its price will be estimated at around $380,000. The hybrid engine will not be the only version.

Amedeo Felisa and Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini and Ferrari heads respectively, said they did not rush to introduce turbochargers for the V12 engine.

The Italian supercars builders Ferrari and Lamborghini do not rush to equip the engines of their models with turbochargers, because the customers prefer an aspirated engine. Even if it is possible that the next V8 engines generation to get a turbocharged, Amedeo Felisa, Ferrari director, said that Enzo’s next generation will still have a V12 unit, which will probably be assisted by an electric motor.

“That is why we are developing hybrid technology. Hybrid means we can protect the V12,” said Amedeo Felisa.

Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini’s director, confirmed that currently thinking about introducing turbochargers to reduce CO2 emissions. Instead, the Italian manufacturer seeking lower fuel consumption by using very light materials.

For both racing and street-designed models, supercar legend maker Ferrari has been showcasting some hybrid concepts at the latest car shows (and not only) around the globe. Purists might be more than a bit put off by the idea of a supposedly eco-friendly vehicle wearing the famed Prancing Horse badge, and it seems that Ferrari head Amadeo Felisa commiserates with them.

At this year’s Beijing Auto Show, Amadeo Felisa declared:

Our customers are looking for the essence of Ferrari – the emotion, the performance, the technology and so on. The way in which we fix emissions is not their problem but ours. If we are not able to fix it, only then will it become a problem for them.

Concerning environmental gains from future hybrid models, Ferrari’s position may be seen as problematic by some:

[Hybrids will come in] 2015, if we are forced to by the [government] regulations. The issue of emissions for Ferrari is more a political one than real one. Lowering emissions of every Ferrari will not save the planet, but it will cost us a lot of money… In the next five to 10 years, hybrid technology will develop and maybe something else will come up. Maybe it’ll be hydrogen, but for our cars only hybrid is ready.

Thus Ferrari let’s us read between the lines and deduct that no all-electric or hydrogen cars will be made in the near future, and the only reason the sportscar manufacturer is even looking at hybrids is because the various governments of the world are making them. You should also know that only two-door light models will be made into hybrids. The latest is a sensible choice, by all means.

The first pictures of the hybrid version of the Ferrari 599 GTB have hit the web only a few days before its debut at the Geneva Motor Show 2010.

The pictures of the Ferrari 599 Hybrid hit the web, just a few days before the official release at the Geneva Auto Sow. It seems that the photographer who captured these images was attending a private presentation made by Ferrari.

According to the first information, the Ferrari hybrid’s electric motor produces 100 HP and offers a torque of 110 lb-ft. The 599′s performances are improved by intake the electric motor, even if the total mass of the car was increased with 220 lbs. 599 Hybrid will also have a kinetic energy recovery system (KERS), similar to those used until last F1 season.

Although the hybrid system is quite advanced, some voices within the Maranello company announces that it will take three or four years until it will be introduced in the series production. Ferrari will unveil more details about the 599 GTB Hybrid at its official launch in Geneva.

Anyway, making a hybrid supercar is something that requires a lot of courage, and even more courage when you talk about Ferrari and its 599 GTB Fiorano, even though it looks like nowadays it is a trend to add an electric motor to almost everything that has four wheels, an engine and a steering wheel.

Ferrari 599 GTB Hybrid will see the sunlight in the form of concept at Geneva on March 2. This will be the first hybrid model ever produced by the Italians.

Luca di Montezemolo has confirmed officially today that the first Ferrari’s hybrid model will be released on March 2, at the Geneva Motor Show. It will be based on the classic version of Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano.

The Ferrari 599 GTB’s hybrid will be similar to other models of this type and will use lithium-ion batteries, the Italian engineers will implement a system for regeneration of lost kinetic energy via the brakes, which will operate in a similar with the KERS in Formula 1. The absolute innovation will be represented by the fact that the model will have two electric motors that will work alternately. Thus, if the one of the motors sends power to the wheel that is cornering on the outside, the other will gather KERS energy from the wheel inside the turn. The two electric motors and batteries that will power them will be located near the rear axle.

In addition to the hybrid system, Ferrari 599 GTBHybrid will receive a start-stop system, another novelty for a model of the Maranello automaker.  The start-stop system implemented on the 599 GTB should significantly reduce fuel efficiency and the emissions of the V12 engine of this model mainly in the urban landscape, which will help Italy reduce the carbon footprint of the brand.
