OFFICIAL: MINI Returns In WRC In 2011
Mini Countryman WRC is the model that will re-enter in the WRC in 2011 with the partners from Prodrive.
After the motorsport went through hard times in recent years with the team to withdraw from WRC and Formula 1 history, things tend to return to normal after the economic crisis begins to soften. And this is the proof that Mini has officially announced that they returns in World Rally Championship in 2011, the British automaker providing to Prodrive team a copy of Countryman WRC model.
Prodrive is seen as the WRC landscape after the team retired at the 2008 season finale, with the departure of the Subaru World Championship. According to MINI officials, Prodrive have the car available to prepare it for the competition since the beginning of 2009.
The MINI model will be presented partially in 2011 season, eventually to be developed and optimized to run throughout the 2012 WRC season. The first official test will be this autumn, the first Countryman WRC rally is most likely, the Rally Sardinia 2011.
“This involvement is planned for several years. We want to exploit our brand in racing history, including the famous Mini wins at the Rally of Monte Carlo.”, said the British officials held at this time by the BMW Group.
