The BMW Gran Coupe Concept Becomes 6 Series

The prefigured model by the BMW Gran Coupe concept will join by the 6 Series range and will debut in a major Auto Show during the 2012.

The Germans from BMW will introduce the Gran coupe concept in production and this model will become the future 6 series. The change in the 6 Series range has been confirmed by the BMW design chief – Klaus Draeger. He confirmed that the 6 Series Coupe will have four doors. To eliminate any overlap with the F10 5 Series range, the guys from BMW will make the future 6 Series Coupe with 3.9 inches shorter than the 5 Series, while the model length and it will be significantly reduced. The 6 Series convertible version will be introduced in the same body configuration used so far – that the soft-top convertible roof.


The BMW Gran Coupe will debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2012 or at the Paris Motor Show in 2012. The production will be done at the factory in Dingolfing, which is built and the current 6 series. The model could be ready much earlier, but the debut at the Geneva Motor Show is excluded because the space is reserved for the future 3 Series Sedan F30. Along with future BMW 3 Series will debut BMW M6 Coupe.

The engines range of BMW Gran Coupe will include two diesel units and two Otto units. For now, the guys from BMW have not announced the development of a performance version conducted by the Motorsport Division engineers. A possible performance version of this model would be the rival for the future CLS 63 AMG. On the other hand, the guys from BMW could introduce a hybrid version of Gran Coupe, which will take items directly related to the future hybrid power-train based on 5 Series.
