The smallest engine ever used in the Bentley range will be a V8 that will also be used by the Germans of Audi.

Soon, Bentley and Audi will have a joint engine. If this news haven’t surprised you, the engine will have less than 6.0-liters, with a displacement of only 4.0-liters. The V8 engine is a part Bentely’s initiative to lower the CO2 emission and will benefit from a direct injection system. The officials of the two brands have not revealed if the engine will feature a supercharging system.

The new engine will make its debut on Continetal GT, at the end of the year. Compared with the current W12 twin-turbo 6.0-liter engine, the CO2 emissions are reduced with 40%. The performances of the new engine are yet unknown, but there are chances that Bentley’s version to be a bit more powerful compared to Audi’s engine. According to the Brits of “WhatCar?,” the new engine will be supercharged by a mechanical compressor.

The rumor of a mechanic compressor supercharging the engine is plausible especially for Audi. The best example would be the V6 TFSI engine of 333 HP of S5, supercharged with a mechanic compressor found in the same spot with the air admission. For Audi, the new V8 engine will be used on the performance version of the luxury class, while Bentley might offer it on the entry-level cars.
