Ford Fusion 2010 and Mercury Milan investigated for pedal entrapment due to floormat

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating The 2010 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan. This rapid movement has been taken, probably the state of things is still tense after the massive Toyota recalls for similar reasons, after three complaints of acceleration pedals being stuck because of floor mats.

A grand total of 249,301 cars are being investigated over this potential problem with Ford’s all-weather floor mats, let’s hope this problem has an explanation and the whole Toyota case doesn’t repeat with Ford. To be honest, we trust Ford and their sub-brand (which is, sadly, to be terminated) much more than Toyota – at least on this level.

Ford’s global product communications manager Said Deep declared to a popular automotive website that the problem that NHTSA is investigating is related to the optional all-weather floor mats, moreover that these mats have been placed on top of the standard ones. So basically people got optional 4-season mats and stacked them on the old ones, out of commodity or pure stupidity.. Is there really much wonder that the pedals were hindered? Stack a few mats in your hallway and you may have problems opening and closing doors, not to mention a delicate piece of car equipment… We will keep you posted on how this investigation evolves and announce you right away if any recalls takes place. Just make sure you’re only setting foot on one mat, for Earth’s sake!

Ford does not recommend stacking floor mats in any vehicle from any automaker. In fact, Ford’s all-weather floor mats have these instructions printed on the top of every driver’s mat. We are not aware of any customer complaints or any accidents related to 2010 Fusions and Milans with properly installed floor mats.
