Although we are 17 months away from its market launch, Alfa Romeo Giulia is an essential model for the future of the brand in Milan. This will be the direct rival of BMW 3-Series, with comparable performance and the Latin spirit of the Alfa models.

The replacement of Alfa Romeo 159, suggestively named Giulia, will be spearhead of the Alfa Romeo sales in the future. The model will be fighting alongside with BMW 3 Series, Audi A4 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class and should attract a large number of customers. After the debut of MiTo and with the Giulietta debut coming soon, Alfa Romeo can fully concentrate on developing the new Giulia, to be more competitive and better than ever. However, this model quality must be raised to a level at least as high as that offered by 159, which increase in reliability was admitted internationally, all taking place after the change of leadership at Alfa Romeo in 2005.

Alfa Romeo Giulia Nuova Super 1300

The future Alfa Romeo Giulia is developed on a platform of increased wheelbase version of Giulietta. In turn, Giulietta is based on the Global Compact Modular Architecture of the Alfa Romeo and new Fiat Powertrain Technologies can be used without problems, such as the Multiair engines and double-clutch transmissions. These technological innovations should bring the guys from Alfa Romeo to an extremely close competition and causing a storm in the premium segment of the class this model will fight.

Although the Giulia platform will not be the lightest in its segment, about 90% of its structure is composed of extremely resistant materials that will provide high torsional strength and great skills in handling. The front suspension is a MacPherson and is made entirely from aluminum, while the rear suspension will be superior to the current Multi-Link solution, which is poor in resistance to the forces in cornering. However, Giulia will be equipped with DNA dampers, steering, engine and suspension control system, to provide different behaviors to this model.

Giulia’s shock absorbers are made with the Koni specialists and 15 engineers working on the Alfa Romeo are only working to the development of the control software of optional active suspension system. Optionally, Alfa Romeo Giulia could be equipped with an Q2 electronically controlled front differential and even with all-wheel drive.

However, the range of engines of this model will be the most modern its class and will offer between 118 and 168 HP from supercharged 1.4-liter engines, but also 104 and 168 HP from 1.6-liter diesel units, and other bigger engines with greater performance – see the 1.75-liter TBI direct injection engines offering between 200 and 235 HP. The diesel range will also be richer, to be implemented more units that will provide up to 250 HP.
