Nissan GT-R Updated And In Testing, See The Spy Video!

At the Nurburgring Nordschleife track, someone was sneaky enough for film this updated Nissan GT-R undergoing testing. Good part is that the car has little disguise on, so we can get a clear view of what could be a Spec M version of the 2011 GT-R. The current Nissan GT-R sports car debuted in March 2009 world-wide, after it had been released in Japan since January same year. We did buzz you up a bit in the recent past with rumours that the car could be buffed up to some 500 hp and that testing will begin in the near future. Well, looks like the latter confirmed and we’ll make sure to let you know when the horsie-horsie part does too.

One can also notice that facelifted sports Nissan is a bit wider, and that it borrows the forged wheels and aero pack from the Spec V, but features an fresh sporty front bumper and rear exhaust design that is looking real good.

There was some speculation that a special edition would make its debut at last year’s Tokyo show, but it never arrived so people were wondering what’s going on. Previous Spec M versions Nissan Skylines were intended to be upmarket affairs, and included leather trim and a more compliant suspension setup for a more comfortable ride. Maybe the work invested in these two models could see some spark of a result in a new M GT-R 2011. We’ll have to wait and see.

When trying to make a damn fast car, companies around the world like Ferrari, Lamborghini and the likes often look at topping the neighbour’s performance more than setting a specific speed and/or performance target. The same goes with production cars, and pretty much the same goes too when it comes to supercars like the Pagani Zonda R testing on the likes of the Nurburgring. Looks like this post here needs an update…

Pagani Zonda R Owns Ferrari on N'ring, video a bit lower

The 6.2 V12 Pagani Zonda R has been pounding round the ‘ring testing components, but the maker but that hasn’t stopped the hyper-car and carbon fiber manufacturer from releasing a video of the crazy test drive. No wonder they did, who wouldn’t boast with a lap time of 6mins 47secs time. We’re talking 12.4 miles here people! That means, apart from You-must-see-the-video-darling!, that the Pagani Zonda R mid-engined supercar is some 11 seconds quicker than a Ferrari 599XX.

Ferrari 458 Italia Weighs In More Than Scuderia Declared!

The total weight of the newest Ferrari model is contested by a Swiss publication. The journalists claim that the 458 Italia is heavier with more than 500 pounds than the number in the data sheet.

After the scandal Ferrari F1 Team was involved in, now Ferrari receives a new image hit. This time we are talking about Scuderia’s latest model, Ferrari 458 Italia. The Swiss journalists of Asphalte.ch have tested the Italian supercar and pulled an alarm signal: the technical specs of the newest Ferrari product have some errors.

The Swiss said that after they weighed the tested model, the total weight was estimated at around 3,523 punds, way heavier than what Ferrari claims. The journalists say that the supercar’s tank was full, but they can’t find any details that can determine the weight differences.

The Italian automaker claims that their car weighs in only 3,042 pounds, a number that can only add the extra weight of the double clutch transmission.

It seems that Ferrari is not at the first error of this type, as the old F430 facing the same problem. More exactly the forerunner of 458 Italia hat a declared weight of 3,133 pounds, but the Asphalte’s measurements revealed a total weight of 3,250 pounds.

A similar situation signaled the guys at Quattroruote, the their magazine, in May, when they wieghed the Mercedes SLS AMG and the total weight reached 3,600 pounds, more than what the Germans announced.

The Porsche 911 Sport Classic is an ulta-limited edition from the German supermaker that was introduced last year in Europe only. That’s because Federal laws didn’t certify the car in time in the States, and as the production was in very limited numbers and on a strict marketing programme…

Only 250 of these retro-design beauties were ever manufactured. And all were sold before the release date, as you can imagine. The price is nothing to sneeze at, those with the necessary means came up with some €169,300 – nearly $220,000. That makes this the second most expensive Porsche of the year 2009, after the range-king GT2.
The 911 Sport Classic is based on the standard-production Porsche 911 Carrera S, only that it only came in gray finish (called “Sport Classic Grey”, go figure…) and a host of elegant tweaks to match it like: subtle twin racing stripes running up and over the length of the bodyshell, lower front splitter, bi-xenon headlights. On top you can also notice a classy double-dome roof, like the golden days Porsches. The rear decklid gains “Sport Classic” script and a small “Exclusive” placard is adhered to front right quarter panel. Photos say the rest, take your time and enjoy the view.

The Porsche 911 Sport Classics is powered by the familiar 3.8-liter direct-injected flat-six engine, also found on the Carrera S, but it now has the once optional engine “Powerkit” as standard equipment. Combined with updated software and other upgrades, the 911 Sport Classics is turned into a real powerhouse, with 408 horsepower (at 7,300 rpm) and 310 pound-feet of torque (at 4,200 rpm) with the redline set at 7,500 rpm. All this power is sent to a mechanical limited-slip rear differential through a standard six-speed manual gearbox. The 911 Sport Classic reaches 62 mph in 4.6 seconds and 124 mph in 14.8 seconds. The drag-limited top speed is 187 mph.

The interior of the 911 Sport Classic is as unique as its exterior. All Porsche models are offered with customized “Porsche Exclusive” components, but the Sport Classic takes it over the top. The dark-brown nuance downed “Espresso Nature” interior design mixes retro touches with quality materials like carbon fibres. The seat cushions have been described as one of a kind, Porsche calls it “woven leather” and defines it is a “special material woven out of strips of leather and yarn strengthened by a lining at the bottom.”

The special Sport Classic graphics adorn the face of the tachometer, while the gear-shift and handbrake are smooth polished aluminium with leather inserts.

GALLERY: Hamann Tunes Mercedes SLS AMG

The Germans tune the hottest new generation German model. Hamann unveiled today their own Mercedes SLS AMG version. The changes are exclusively aesthetic.

The Hamman tuning house has released the first photos of their own Mercedes SLS AMG version. Although may claim that the German model doesn’t need a tuning house to perfect its design, Hamann insists on their own vision of the latest supercar developed by Mercedes.

The changes operate by Hamann focus on the exterior design, the technical aspects remaining untouched by the German tuners. So the main modifications are the 21-inch aluminium wheels, painted in black and the ride’s hight that was lowered 1.2-inches compared to the standard SLS AMG. The tires are 245/20 ZR21 in the front and 295/25 ZR21 in the rear, the set of rims and tires costing not less than $13,500.

A new end of the exhaust system occurs, represented by four stainless steel pipes that inspire power, although the classic Mercedes engine remains the same. The diameter of each pipe is of 3.5-inches.

Top Gear’s James May Drives Bugatti Veyron SS To 259.11 mph [+video]

Well, well; so this was the big mystery. It seems Captain Slow isn’t all that slow after all. After we posted you here that TopGear were hinting about a certain involvement or connection they may have with the Bugatti Veyron record, here’s the deal now – and it’s going to be the feature article in the August TopGear magazine, which is available already in the English speaking world

TopGear rides the Bugatti Veyron SS close to record speed!

The team, with it’s probably must less likely member to do so, Captain Slow, managed to drive the car quite close I’d say to the the 267.81-mph record, more exactly James May hit a 259.11 mph max speed. Maybe not Guinness Book Of Records material but certainly worth a few Guinness draughts. Cheers!

This isn’t BBC’s May’s first experience with the Veyron, of course. We all remember that the British self-titled Captain of maladroitness did a similar test run in the standard-spec Bugatti, hitting 253 mph out on Volkswagen‘s Ehra-Lessien track in Germany. No doubts left standing, the Bugatti Veyron SS is Super Sport indeed, even with Cpt. Slow belted in that seat. More and all in the magazine and on the TopGear website. Here’s the video clip:

Considering that chances of ever seeing one of these beauties on the street are close to none, a new gallery with the car on the roads was called for. $630,000 For Porsche 918 Spyder Hybrid Supercar?

Porsche presented this year at Geneva Motr Show the “Super hybrid,” Porsche 918 Spyder, which seems to become the most expensive Porsche ever.

According to Bloomberg, the new model of the German automaker, Porsche 918 Spyder, may be priced $630,000. The huge price did not scare the the potential buyers, as 2,000 people already stated their wish to buy the new sporty hybrid.

Porsche 918 Spyder is a hybrid that can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds and has a top speed of 200 mph.

The secret of this hybrid supercar is the V8 engine that develops not less than 500 HP at 9,200 rpm, of course helped by other two electric motors, one in the front and one in the back, that add 208 HP more. So, you do the math: a total power of 709 HP transmitted to a PDK gearbox with 7 gears. The electric “tank” is a Li-Ion battery that can be recharged both from a normal outlet, but also by converting the kinetic energy into electricity while braking.

So, if the rumors are true, and if you have $630,000 you should not hesitate and buy the hybrid supercar of the future. Still, I wonder if Jerry Seinfeld ordered one?

Goodwood Festival of Speed, A Video Conclusion

This year’s edition of the Goodwood Festival of Speed, England’s best car event annually, was a huge success. 170,000 people have been estimated to arrive at the event, driving in retro cars, new cars, usual cars or even on foot. It was a colourful event, that honoured Alfa Romeo’s 100th anniversary. See pictures for day one here and for the Hill Climb here.

Now, after a week already passed since the Festival of Speed, let’s draw a few conclusions, and were words fail images fill in. Moving images the better. Even if you took close to no notice about this even by now, these videos can help catch up… or just drool over some fantastic looking cars.

BMW Z4 + Nike = 400HP, Style And Nastiness

Vancouver-based tuning shop MWDesign took their inspiration from the Nike’s Slingshot golf clubs series and created a work of art that combines two brands quintessential for coolness today: BMW and Nike.

How did the tuner go out to tune a car like the Z4, which some see as already “custom”, or strange in any case, for a BMW? (Speaking of the Z4, check out the Z4 GT3!)

The team over at MWDesign started out by adding an AC Schnitzer front spoiler complete with custom carbon fiber lower splitters, 3D Design matte carbon fiber rear diffuser and boot lid spoiler, BMW Performance kidney grilles, a carbon fiber hood strip and a set of 20-inch Modular alloy wheels with glossy black outer rims. Next they applied what is probably the most noticeable, not also likeable from our point of view, note: lime green accents on the front air-ducts, the alloy wheels, the tail pipe surrounds and the twin roll bars. The custom carbon fiber exterior accents with primer grey on the hood, the trunk and the retractable hardtop along with the matte black tailpipes complete the visual makeover.

The Z4 Nike Slingshot also benefits from numerous performance upgrades like the power kit from Dinan, a sport exhaust system from Eisenmann USA and a new intercooler. The result? Power is pumped up to 400-horsepower and 420 lb-ft of peak torque. Hell yeah, this BMW will be running down the street faster then LeBron James to the slam with Nike Airs.

Like all pro tuners do, the poeple working on the Z4 Slingshot took care of handling and made sure the extra thrust is balanced by handling improvements. Thus, they fitted 245/30 Toyo tires, Eibach Pro Sports Springs with reinforced shock mounts and bump stops on the custom Z4, and H&R adjustable front and rear swaybars too.
