The collaboration between Volkswagen and Suzuki could form a moto division in the future, in the German car maker. That will benefit by Japanese experience on this segment.
The windfall of the 20% holding of Suzuki offered Volkswagen a lot of opportunities. One of the most important would be the Germans chance to enter the moto segment, where Suzuki is doing very well and has a hard-set image.
The alliance between VW an Suzuki could make this the world’s largest automaker group.
“We first made contact with Suzuki in August, 2009 and visited Hamamatsu (where Suzuki has its head office) in November. While there, we were able to have the same level of technical discussions with the Suzuki engineers as we usually have with the engineers in VW’s head office. We speak the same language because the engineers at both companies share a great emphasis on technological development” said VW chief, Martin Winterkorn.
