A policeman parked illegaly on a street in Chian’s Beijing. Now, we don’t know for sure if he was on duty, it it was an emergency or a regular check-up or if policemen in China also spend half of their lives near doughnut cribs too… but one thing is for sure: the long arm of the law is long indeed in China!

I mean, honestly, can you help laugh at this? I wish I’d see this happen to a local proud knight-in-shiny-armour cop back here. We can just hope that, on the other hand, fate won’t be as ironic as usual: being “made in China”, that locker just might snap at one or two kicks. Kidding, actually this is a positive example of blind law. And a damn funny one two. Nice police cars by the way… special Chery packs of course.

Always park legally! Even if you feel you won’t hinder traffic, be it on foot or car traffic… Wow we teach daily kid lessons nowadays, shesh!

Chery – Chinese move in Europe starts with Turkey

Chery has fit perfectly into the Turkish automotive market by offering quality vehicles at a lower price.
Chery Automobile is owned by the local government of Wuhu, Anhui province (but is scheduled to be privatized), and sold about 381,000 vehicles in 2007. It is the largest independent Chinese auto manufacturer and one of the fastest growing automakers in the world.

The company is planning to invest $550 million to start a production line in Turkey. This could mean a big move and the start of a Chinese conquest of Europe. No, I don’t mean any medieval wars here just cars. Chery was one of the few entities in the automotive world whose sales increased amidst this so-called crisis.

“There is a significant prejudice against Chinese products,” said Sedat Piro?lu, executive board member of Mermerler Otomotiv, the Turkey distributor of Chery. “However, with Chery, consumers learned that those prejudices are not always well-grounded,” he said at the TÜYAP Adana International Exhibition and Congress Center in Adana, where he was attending the Çukurova Otoshow 2009 Fair. The fair opened Saturday and runs until Wednesday.

It seems that the public has appreciated Chery cars, and went beyond the “China makes cheap things, not only literally” preconception. Piro?lu said. “When the Turkish consumers saw the quality of the Chinese automotives, they couldn’t believe their eyes.” This is not only boasting as it is backed-up by sale statistics.

He adds: “A Turkish citizen dropped by our stand and told us: ‘Well this actually looks like a real car. Not like a toy like we feared.’ We couldn’t help but laugh. Everybody had a different vision of what a Chinese product would look like. I believe we managed to demolish these barriers. Now, the public knows that there can be products much cheaper than its competitors and still have the same quality.”

“According to the agreement we have signed with Chery, if the company decides on investing in Turkey, it will collaborate with Mermerler Otomotiv,” said Piro?lu. “Therefore, we are conducting infrastructure studies for a factory that will be established here.”

Of course, it would be a bad bad moment to buy a car and have no spare parts in case you need some, as well as the necessary assistance. The spare parts industry is quite important as well, Piro?lu said. “Therefore, we aim to turn Turkey into Chery’s logistics hub for spare parts.”
Currently Chery is sending spare parts via ships. “They are trying all transportation vehicles possible to reach to Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, Syria and Russia. Instead, we offered Chery the opportunity to send its spare parts via Turkey. For that, we have prepared a facility. Chery officials will arrive in the upcoming days and visit the location. We hope to turn Turkey in to a logistics center in spare parts.”

Mermerler Otomotiv and Chery have agreed upon the sale of 25,000 vehicles annually. However, this year, due to economic turmoil only 5,000 vehicles were sold in Turkey. Hopefully next year will be a better one, said Piro?lu.

“Every seven years we go through similar troubles and we pull through. If the expected environment develops then we foresee to double or even triple our sales. Next year we expect to sell 10,000 to 15,000 vehicles,” said Piro?lu.

Big plans for the Chinese little Chery. Time will tell if this opening on European grounds will be the Chery on top of the cake or just a hastily decided move..
