Mercedes wants to give a reply to the rivals that occupied the hot hatch segment and plans an AMG version of the future Mercedes B-Class.

Mercedes aims to attract younger clients and the for the future plans to include an AMG version to the Mercedes B-Class range. It is assumed that the new hatchback will be profiled more sporty than the current one from the start, to be worthy of the AMG specific. But, this model will be a premiere in several aspects. First, it will be a Mercedes hot hatch, so the German mark will penetrate a totally virgin segment for them so far.

The second unique fact is that AMG models now have only 8-cylinder engines and would mean madness to mount something like this on a compact. Realistically speaking, the guys from Autonews, announced that this model could have a 4-cylinder engine, so the sports division will have to specialize and work with smaller engines.

2011 Mercedes B-Class AMG

It is clear that of this model will find its rivals, obviously, between Audi S3 and VW Golf R, but it remains to be seen how long it will keep the AMG blazon and what will be the price compromise. A too expensive model will have no success, while one with low costs will automatically involve staining the AMG fame. The new Mercedes B-Class will be launched next year and the AMG version might come out with a lag of two years.

  • hmmm… a B-Class AMG would be interesting. they should try fitting the old 3.2L c-class AMG under the hood, or use the newer 3.5L V6 for the AMG model. it would be interesting to see a V6 AMG back in the lineup.
