Mark Webber will use a lighter chassis in the Australian Grand Prix.

Mark Webber has revealed that, in the race in Melbourne, will use a new chassis, which will be built by the engineers from Milton Kynes and will have a lower weight than the chassis used in Bahrain at the end of last week. The idea of a lighter chassis itself belonged to the Australian pilot who convinced Red Bull F1 Team engineers to develop such a solution.

“I was talking to my mechanics last night and they have got a brand new car for me. I have got a new chassis for this event, it’s even lighter, making sure we make even more progress to go towards the front,” said the 33 years old pilot for the Australian press.

According to the new F1 technical regulations, the minimum weight of a F1 car for this season was increased from 1334 to 1367 pounds. A lighter chassis lets the engineers to streamline placement of the ballast to reach the required minimum weight of the FIA, and this has a beneficial effect on the balance between front and rear of the car.

Maybe such a move will help Mark Webber have some fun at the wheel of the Red Bull RB1 F1 car, as a few days ago declared he got bored during the Bahrain GP.
