Beat traffic with a … jetpack? Really, Martin personal jetpacks for sale!

The Martin Aircraft Company has created its own jetpack for public use, and we mean it public. How would that be? To just fly over traffic at rush hour, and have a heck of an adrenaline rush while doing it too!

This is possible as the little contraption you can observe in the attached photos is clasified as an Ultralight flying machine and thus requires no FAA pilot’s license by U.S. law. Martin says the Jetpack costs the same as a high-end car or motorcycle.

For what it’s worth, the Martin Jetpack is a jet in name only – much the same way that a jetski isn’t really powered by a jet engine, the Martin apparatus actually uses a 2.0-liter V-four two-stroke engine that drives twin carbon/kevlar rotors. With 600-pounds of thrust, Martin claims its Jetpack can accommodate pilots up to 280 pounds.

With the fuel that the jetpack stores you can drive erm sorry fly up to 31.5 miles. But note that that’s in a straight line! More than always we find ourselves going in mazes around in the car for a distance that could be twice as short as the crow flies.
