Porsche 918 Spyder At Geneva 2010 – Porsche’s Super Hybrid
Porsche returns in force at the Geneva Auto Show with a supercar concept, called the Porsche 918 Spyder that gives a whole new meaning to the concept of sporty hybrid.
Porsche prepares for Geneva in 2010 something like a contemporary incarnation of the Porsche Carrera GT. To keep pace with the times design is not the only one that has evolved radically, but also technology. This model is a hybrid, which gives an entirely different connotation of the term. More specifically the Porsche 918 Spyder is a hybrid that can reach 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and has a maximum speed of 199 mph.
The secret of this hybrid torpedo is the V8 engine that develops 500 HP at 9200 rpm and of other two electric motors, one on the front axle and the other on the rear one, together adding 208 extra horses. The power is transmitted via the PDK gearbox with 7 gears. The electric “Container” is a Li-Ion battery can be charged from a normal outlet, but also by converting the kinetic energy collected during braking.
Exclusively in the electric mode, this sporty hybrid can travel 15 miles and it is activated by pressing a single button. Other modes of operation of the unit are Sport Hybrid and Hybrid Race, the last delivering pure performance. Also, there is the E-Boost ”ace in the sleeve” , which offers an electric “shock” that helps you in the overcomes done at the limit.

The guys from Porsche say that the 918 Spyder is designed to have an average mileage of 62 mpg and to complete a lap onNurbrugring in less than 7 minutes and 30 seconds, this is translated: faster than the Porsche Carrera GT. Even if it has a mass of 3,285 lbs, some figures look a bit too optimistic.
n terms of design this model combines traditional details of the Porsche 917 with the current trends, take a look at the rear that seems a very futuristic embodiment of the R8′s posterior. The interior seems to preface to the new direction that the brand wants to follow, being avant-garde. More images will see tomorrow when the Porsche 918 Spyder will make its official debut.
