“5″ Concept by Peugeot, a glimpse in the future 508
The “5 by Peugeot” concept is a really cool looking concept, that will be the base for the future 508 mid-size sedan from the French maker. Competition with-the Ford Mondeo and Vauxhall Insignia is going to be tough, so let’s see what this concept promises.
Coming in at 191.3 inches long and 74 inches wide, with a wheelbase of 110 inches, the 5 by Peugeot is rather staid looking compared to the French automaker’s previous offerings. Aside from the overly-stylized headlamps, the front fascia looks surprisingly production ready, incorporating a massive front air dam with a combination of brushed aluminium accents and an interesting grille. Actually, the grille is a complex sight with excellent contrasting chrome tones, that will probably bee the signature for the future 508. The rear side of the track is a typical Peugeot finish.
Beneath this interesting outer body will lie the spirit of the future flagship sedan of Peugeot, the Hybrid4 system. Rumoured to be around 163 horsepower, the 2.0-liter HDi FAP diesel will work together with ith a rear-mounted, 37-hp electric motor. Total output 200 hp. Power is sent to all four wheels. This system, Peugeot claims, will enable the 508 to go on electricity only for a short period of time.
No reveal date for the actual 508 is known, however it is bound to hit some auto show or gallery towards the end of the year. That means that a 2011 model 508 will be available.
