2011 BMW 5 Series F10 ActiveHybrid To Be Launched At Geneva

BMW has announced that they will launch, at Geneva, the hybrid version of the 5 Series model. ActiveHybrid concept would be the foundation of the production version in the coming months.

With one month before the official opening of the Geneva Motor Show, BMW announces that its stand will host a world premiere that few expected. Specifically, the premium automaker will unveil at the Swiss auto show a concept version of ActiveHybrid of the recently-launched 2011 5 Series (F10).

The green alternative to the Bavarian sedan is expected to debut as a production model a few months later, when the first copies are expected to go on sale. First, BMW plans to launch the hybrid on the market in Europe, the Americans will have to wait some time until German model, drops on their market too.

Also a bad news for the Americans is the fact that the new 5 Series Touring version will not go overseas. The Germans have taken this decision after the last generation has recorded only 1,000 copies sold last year. The decision was confirmed by Klaus Draeger, BMW management board member who said: “I don’t think we will sell it because in the past, station wagons have not sold well.”

Instead of the Touring model, the Bavarians will launch the new 5 Series GT on the American market, a more efficient alternative to those who want a family car. Just like in Europe, Series 5 GT will be available in 535i and 550i versions, with 408 HP and 306 HP, respectively, but the 530d diesel version will be missing.
