The First Details Of The BMW M1 – 350 Horsepower Engine

The cheapest performance model  from BMW will debut on the market in about 18 months and will develop 350 HP from a six cylinder 3.0-liter bi-turbo engine.

The BMW’s M Division engineers are working hard to develop a performance version of the 1 Series Coupe’s, which could be called M1. The model is equipped with a turbocharged six cylinder engine with two turbines, most likely as it is a modified version of N55B30, which will develop 350 hp. The new N55B30 engine debuts 5-Series GT and is equipped with one twinscroll turbine, Valvetronic, Double-veined and direct injection and develops 306 hp, just like its twin-turbo forerunner  – N54B30.

The new BMW M1 will be the cheapest performance model from BMW line-up and will compete with the new Audi RS3. The guys from BMW are still thinking of a name for the new model, as the name of M1 has been already used for a supercar that debuted in 1978 and didn’t  have a successor.

The purpose of the new model is to make BMW’s performance versions more accessible for the general public and to attract more young people towards the Munich brand. Besides the performance improvement over the 135i M Sport, the new car from BMW will be more efficient, with the engineers saying that it has lower fuel consumption. The cheapest M is based on the current BMW 1 Series Coupe and may be equipped with a double-clutch transmission and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential.

The suspension the new BMW model is a modified version of the one currently on the 135i Coupe, which is equipped with a MacPherson strut front axle and a multi-link rear axle. The BMW engineers will fit stronger springs and firmer shock absorbers, along with a tougher set of jacks. The wheels of new M model will have a size of 18 inches, and a more dynamic overall behavior than the 135i coupe’s.

The new performance model from BMW is inspired from BMW 135 tii concept shown in 2007, and the of the cheapest M will reflect this. Thus, the front bumper will get a lower lip, the wings will be bloated, the side skirts will have a different shape and the rear bumper could incorporate an air diffuser between the two dual-pipe exhausts. In the back, the car will also get a rear spoiler to provide extra stability at high speeds.
