Pierro Ferrari believes that Michael Schumacher has not betrayed the team that helped him won 5 world titles when he decided to return to Mercedes Formula 1 GP.

Michael Schumacher has confirmed just two days before Christmas that he will return to Formula 1 season in 2010, planning to compete for the new Mercedes GP team.

Schumacher’s move divided the Ferrari fans into two camps, as the German pilot saw the glory with the Scuderia through five consecutive world titles from 2000-2004. Some international publications labeled the German as a traitor, but Pierro Ferrari, one of the sons of the founder of the Rearing Horse  said that the Maranello-located team could not provide a driver seat for Scumacher in the 2010 F1 season.

“We feel a little bad, because Michael was ours. I would have liked him to stay with us, but they are using the word ‘treason’ – in truth, he wanted to race and the conditions were not that he could do it with us,” the Italian declared for Gazzetta dello Sport.

Even if Michael Schumacher is regarded as one of the favorites for the World Championship title in the following season, Ferrari F1 Team is confident that Massa and Alonso are able to provide an answer for the German driver.

“We’ve signed Alonso, who has challenged and beaten Michael, and we also have Massa, who took over from Schumacher and has grown a lot. I am convinced we have been able to build a good car, better than that of 2009, and we will not lose the title because of the drivers,” Pierro Ferrari also said.

Schumacher was very close to a return to Ferrari last summer, but he withdrew his plans after the medical tests have highlighted neck problems following a motorcycle accident suffered in February.
