Land Rover special edition for the UK: Freelander 2 Sport
The United Kingdom seems to be getting a new special edition once every couple of weeks. Or more often. The Brits like surprises, that’s for sure, but are they buying? We don’t know for sure, but we do think this car here will motivate them to cough up some of those sterlings. This special edition, based on the LR2 as it is known in the States or Freelander2 as it is sold through out Europe is sure to make a lasting impression on fans and not-so-fans of the “lifestyle 4w” alike.
New for 2010, the Land Rover Freelander 2 Sport is as sporty and robust as the moniker suggests. You can chose from either the Santorini Black or Lago Grey paint job. Both look excellent and give it a winter look, so if you can afford a good custom car and live in the UK go on and contact Land Rover you’d be missing a great deal! Both have a cool rear spoiler and a beautiful set of 19-inch diamond-turned alloy wheels.
The interior is much more stylish, and we fancy the flamboyant name for the twin-tone look of the cabin: “Ebony & Storm”. You can pick bewteen cloth interior or a “sports styling pack” in Lago Grey leather.
Engine is a 2.2-liter diesel four, much like we got used to ever since 1996, with manual transmission only. So if you wanted to get one of these Freelander 2 Sport just to cruise down to McDonalds for a bite with da boys, think again. British Land Rover PR boasts that this version gets even better gas mileage with the fitment of stop/start technology.
The model goes on sale next month and starts at £26,695 ($43,581 USD, but bear in mind that UK market prices are higher than those of the U.S.) on-the-road. Time will tell whether the model will expand, and if US customers can get a North American version some time soon. We’ll keep you updated. Press release included.
