New Mercedes C-class series to be built in both Germany and the U.S.A.
The next-generation C-class from Mercedes will start production in 2014, as the German supermaker confirms. Yes, the popular luxury vehicles that outshined all competition from Audi and BMW in 2000-2007 is getting a new generation, probably dubbed W205.
German production will be consolidated at Daimler’s Bremen factory while units for the North American market will be built in the U.S. This dual building process may seem a burdening task, but the decision is actually a smart one. The diminishing value of the U.S. dollar versus Euro means building cars “on the spot” in the U.S. can save millions. Mercedes also boasts with creating some 2,000 job posts for the 2014 C-Class series, read more on that in the press release.
The 2007 Mercedes-Benz C Class was awarded Car of the Year in Australia by Wheels Magazine, edging out the Ford Mondeo and Mazda 2 for the award. It was also awarded “Executive Car Of The Year” by Top Gear Magazine for the 2007 Top Gear Awards. Let’s hope the new C-Class generation will rise up to the same standards, these testing times shouldn’t affect such beautiful series of cars like the Mercedes C-Class.
