Usually, on most cars, I mean on sedans, family cars and other regular set of wheels, you won’t see a rear wing, unless it’s a tuned or customized car. Or a sports car. Why? Cause they increase drag, add weight on a point of the body that’s far from the gravitational centre, so they reduce fuel economy.

Chinese designer Leon Zhu thinks they can be put to good use however. And considering that many people love them, this sounds like a good idea. But how? The Chinese designer has a plan to fit a foldable solar screen inside the space, otherwise unused. Just like the 2010 Toyota Prius’s solar sunroof, only able to produce much more power and not only. The Prius’s solar roof was planed mainly to power a cooling system in the car while it’s parked, so you don’t boil your head inside when you come back. This windscreen with solar shades however could store electricity for the burst needed to start the engine, or even to add to batteries on electric vehicles. Or just to max out that AC when you gen in the car and feel like hugging a penguin cause of the heat.

All this plus keeping the car protected from sunlight, and the damage it causes on the long run to the paint finish, interior materials and whatever you may leave scattered around the car. Well, we hope it’s not some extra-cheese pizza…

All this with no nasty addition to the car. Just a cool wing in the rear that you always wanted on the car anyway! Making the car look great, saving the paint finish from evil solar rays PLUS cutting the environment some slack! Look at how it would work in the pictures of this Chevrolet Impala with the foldable solar screen kept in the rear wing. Doesn’t the car look fine with that thing. Actually, it’s a real common addition on tuned Chevs anyway… Gotta give it to this Leon Zhu person: why didn’t someone think of this by now?
