McLaren unveiled that they will adopt the front wing model introduced by Ferrari and Red Bull right after they understand how it works.

Sunday, FIA confirmed via a technical report that the Ferrari and Red Bull F1 cars respect the Formula 1 regulations, including the flexible front wing.

Several team in Formula 1 suspected Ferrari and Red Bull of not respecting the F1 regulations by using such a front wing, but the FIA’s decision gives the other teams the OK to use the new front wing. McLaren is the first team that announced will copy the new technology, but boss Martin Whitmarsh admitted that the engineers have not managed yet to understand how the new front wing works.

“The pictures I was shown, neither myself nor our engineers can explain. But that may be because we are not clever enough, but it is unusual. We would like to understand it, because if you can do what they are doing legally then we would like to do it,” explained the Brit after the grand prix in Hockenheim.

On the other hand, McLaren excluded the hypothesis of officially complaining to FIA about this subject, saying that the team prefers to concentrate on the development of the MP4-25 F1 car.

“We are not going to protest. I think our modus operandi is make our car as quick as we can, and concentrate on that. We’ve got good harmony in our team, possibly better harmony now than our neighbors [in the paddock Ferrari's motorhome is right next to McLaren's] on either side, and we are leading the championship. We have to accelerate the process of developing the car and I think we can do that,” he also said.

The international press speculates that at least one team officially protested against Ferrari and Red Bull, but until now there is no official informations.
