It seems the Germans did it again. After they took some spy shots of the Italian Alfa Milano, now it’s the Japanese Toyota-Subaru coupe concept’s turn. And guess what? The shots were taken in Nürburgring. Again. We expect to see the Toyota FT-86 at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show. All we can do is make suppositions about Subaru’s half of the project.
Even though the test mule is well coated, we can still figure out some of the major aesthetic lines. It looks pretty much like the new Impreza WRX: long nose, short tail, very aggressive. Of course, we can’t know for sure if this is how the production FT-86 will look, but we have nothing to worry about if it’s a car made by Toyota/Subaru, builders of the Supra, Celica and Impreza.

Just like it’s brother, Toyota’s concept, it is likely that Subaru will stuff under the hood the same 2.0-liter boxer engine. Form what we’ve seen so far, and knowing that that engine can produce about 200 hp, it seems Toyota has won the race so far, their prototype being way shorter than Subaru’s.

The concept looks just like a sporty RWD coupe should: a 2+2 cabin pushed back over the rear axle and with a big wing in the back. Word has it that Subaru is not enjoying Toyota’s idea of a RWD coupe, because they will have to drop their 4WD signature.
