Chevrolet officially announced that the battery of the future Volt will have an 8 year or 100,000 miles warranty. The warranty can be transfered and will cover all the 161 parts.

Three months before the official launch of the new Chevrolet Volt, the General Motors subsidiary announces that the batteries of the electric model will be protected by a 8 year / 100,000 miles warranty. The warranty of the American car builder has the role to attract the potential customers and put the reliability of their models in a good light.

400 lbs - is the weight of Chevy Volt's battery

More than this, the Chevy Volt warranty can be transferred to another owner if the car is sold. According to the official statement from Chevrolet, Volt will have the biggest warranty offered for an electric vehicle so far.

GM announced a plan of producing 10,000 Chevrolet Volt units by the end of 2011 and 30,000 more in 2012, at General Motor’s Detroit-Hamtramck plant in Michigan. Volt will be available in all the states in 12-18  months after the launch.

The warranty will cover all the 161 parts of the battery. The decision is a wise one, considering that the 400 pounds battery is evaluated somewhere between $10,000 and $13,000.
