VW Passat CC to be sold in China under the Magotan CC moniker
China Car Times reported that the VW Passat CC is going to be produced for the expanding (and surprising) China market as Magotan CC.
Additionally, it will most probably be equipped with a new engine too. Yes, you guessed – that as to stop importing (transport and custom-house tolls mean expenses). Thus, locally manufactured 1.8TSI or 2.0TSI engines will be used. These are also shared by the regular Magotan sedan line-up.
The Passat CC is currently sold in China for just over 500,000 yuan ($73,200) with a 3.6l AWD setup, and the future Chinese built one is likely to be FWD and with only the 4 cylinder engines available
Interesting enough – as proof that the Chinese market is indeed surprising – many models of popular European or American cars are designed as different models in China. No news so far, but they also come in specific local versions, and yet the original keep on selling. Despite the overlap. This will probably happen in Volkswagen Passat’s case too.
We will do our best to keep you posted on how well this a 4-door “coupĂ©” version of the Passat will fair in China and the Asian market as a whole.
