Toyota floormats reason for recall?
There has been quite a buzz on the web lately about Toyota recalls concerning floormats. Yes, that’s right – mats. This is no joking matter, as Toyota company representatives gave the public numbers on hog big this recalls is. And the scale is huge, T-Rex style: around 4 milion Toyota and Lexus vehicles. A number of complaints have shown that the floormats can creep forward and get stuck under the accelerator, which can lead to unintended and potentially dangerous acceleration.
However, in case you own a Toyota or intend to purchase one, you should know that the recall is not yet official. So what’s the deal with this floormats and why are they potentially harmful?
It seems that the mechanism that locates and holds the car’s floormats in place is a possible cause for concern. It seems that Toyota engineered a floormat hook that can be detached from the carpet so that cars not equipped with optional mats don’t have latches protruding from the floor. Unfortunately, this design also means that there are two places where the mats could become unhooked.
According to Toyota spokesman John Hanson, some other Toyota vehicles not included in the recall are also equipped with this same floormat hook design. Only the models that have received specific complaints were included in the initial recall, though more Toyota vehicles could be added once the details are finalized, including some 2010 models.

boyles furniture is also poor and migh make me recall the sofa. hahaha.
on subject: this is a joke toyota rule mats or no mats
Silly, all floormats creep under the pedals, how about soda cans, lipstick etc etc . Actually I have a Tacoma, I did slowly creeped under my brake pedals, but I caught it prior for it from happening, I just threw it out and not have any floor mats at all. Who ever got in to an accident because of this, is a Moron, and I do not feel for him and he/she should be responsible for the people who died or killed,
Thank you for the opinion Manus. Like I said, the recall is not official yet.
I’m surprised at Manus’ statement. Firstly soda cans or lipsticks aren’t shipped with a new vehicle so they cannot be part of Toyota’s concern. Not all people are as car savy as we are so when the vehicle starts accelerating unintentionally it is a panic situation for them. They cannot think to simply put in Neutral and let the engine race..they panic. This guy paniced and himself as well as other were killed, this is very trajic.
This guy couldn’t shut his vehicle off, it was a push button start. If you could hear the panic in his voice from the 911 call I would like to think you’d change your opinion.
