Rumor: Toyota/Subaru Will Cut 40HP To Make Their Coupe Concept An “Eco Car”"

From the multitude of rumors surrounding the Toyota/Subaru decision to revive the name of the Japanese sport cars, a recent one attracted our attention. It seems that the Toyota/Subaru coupe concept that will debut at the Tokyo Motor Show (codename 086A) will find fans among the AE86 Corolla and Subaru rally cars lovers.
But rumor has it that the two Japanese Companies will have to cut about 40 hp to make the 086A an “eco car” back in Japan. Knowing that “less is more”, Toyobaru have boosted the power-to-weight ratio by dropping some weight. Anyway it seems that the 40hp cut will only affect the 2.0-liter boxer engine, so Americans be happy, Subaru is no longer selling that in US. This means that US will probably get the Subaru’s naturally aspirated 2.5-liter boxer or even better, a whole lot of turbo plumbing.
We are looking forward to see the successor of the Subaru rally cars this October at the Tokyo Motor Show. Or is it the AE86 Corolla successor? Toyota says that the AE86 fans will see the 086A as a “nostalgia purchase”. We don’t know anything for sure, but when we’ll find out we’ll let you know. See you in Tokyo!
