Autonomy Record For Daihatsu Mira Electric Vehicle: Over 600 Miles

Daihatsu Cuore is the first electric vehicle that is able to travel 600 miles with a single recharge, thanks to a lithium-ion battery pack, specially prepared by Sanyo.

All major car builders boast with their hybrid or electric technology and the money invested in such research. But few know that someone has got it long before, an outsider that no one considered him a real threat. It’s Daihatsu, which officially announced a new autonomy record for an electric vehicle.

The Japanese hero is called Mira or Cuore, in Europe, and was modified by the electronics company Sanyo, which has developed a special set of lithium-ion batteries. The mini EV from Daihatsu has managed to travel a distance of over 600 miles with one full battery charge.

In order to be able to make those 600 miles, Daihatsu Course run at a constant speed of 25 mph, which made the test to last over 27 hours and require the experience of 17 drivers.

The record set by Daihatsu was planned by an organization dedicated to electric vehicles, named Japan Electric Vehicle Club. They decided that the test should be conducted on the Shimotsuma circuit, and so was it.

Japan Electric Vehicle Club is now seeking to obtain approval from the Guinness World of Records for longest distance traveled by an electric vehicle. The old record belonged to the same organization and autonomy was established in November last year, when an electric vehicle has traveled 345 miles on a single charge.
