Land Rover To Introduce Front-Wheel Drive For Range Rover Starting 2011

British automaker announced the introduction of front-wheel drive versions for Range Rover in 2011, and confirmed to launch a diesel hybrid in the next three years.

Land Rover announced yesterday that it will introduce a new option in the current Range Rover line-up. It’s a front-wheel drive version, which complements the existing offer, with four-wheel drive. The new configuration will allow the SUV to restrain the CO2 emissions to only 130 g/km and officially become the lightest and “stingiest” Range Rover ever.

Expected to debut on the market next year, the new front-wheel drive version is just a preamble before launching the most efficient Land Rover ever, a hybrid scheduled to make its appearance on the streets in 2013. Together with the British automaker, Jaguar, has committed to invest approximately 930 million euros in developing hybrid technologies.

First results will be seen yet this year, the end of 2010 will bring the streets thediesel-hybrid prototypes ready for testing. Developed on the current Range Rover Sport, diesel hybrid, currently known under the Range_e name, will be ready for its official debut until 2012, a year later as expected and the market.

Returning to the new front-wheel drive version, Phil Popham, Land Rover CEO, said that they “will continue to make the world’s finest all-terrain vehicles for those customers who require 4WD, but will also now offer an alternative to those that don’t.”
