New bomb threat in NY? No, just a BMW X3 prototype bluntly parked. Spyshots, obviously!

Talk about major lols this whole bomb threat scandal is creating. An apparent error in judgement by Martin Birkmann, head of product planning for BMW North America, reportedly triggered a bomb scare and the resulting evacuation of several blocks along Central Park West  this afternoon (10th of May)

Why’s that? Well the cause and reason for this little scare is what, in other situations, would have been a blessing for photographers and, consequently, car bloggers: a sought for prototype BMW X3 parked nicely right in front of  the American Museum of Natural History.

Birkmann of BMW was out evaluating a prototype 2011 BMW X3 covered in camouflage when he stopped to enjoy, as we can easily presume,  a bit of fresh air in the park. That’s why the engine was running, which fact amassed quite a few people around the car. The police soon arrived too, making all of this seem like a Guy Ritchie movie (the part where a distraction takes place so that the robbers can act safely in the other part of town, mind you) (oh and another thing, Guy would probably never use a BMW SUV, but that’s another story).

No doubt there was no reason for the fuss nor any danger involved in the rather beautiful concept try-out BMW X3 (observe the  Spy Shots gallery included). Sadly it seems the window got somehow broken in this whole happening, proof that sometimes people are more of a threat to a threat that the threat is a threat to people. Erm, nevermind.
